Is it too late to make a reservation?

It is never too late to do so but we highly encourage our customers to follow the rule: the earlier, the better. At Extra Mile Movers we work around Your schedule and needs to come as close as possible to your desired moving dates. Most of our clients reserve a spot 2-6 weeks prior to the move. This helps us meet your needs. Make certain that you receive and sign our Order of Service via email, to specify your moving dates and any special requests. If your pickup and delivery dates are critical due to such factors as lease expiration or a real-estate closing, make sure to let us know so we can accommodate you better.  Keep in mind if you are living in a high-rise it will be challenging to reserve an elevator with a short notice! If you already know your moving date, call us now and a moving consultant will help you get started.

How long does it take to move?

This depends on many, many factors such as: the time of the year, weather conditions, the size of your apartment/house, the time required for loading and unloading, and the distance we are travelling. Request a free quote and one of our relocation specialists will give you an accurate estimate based on all the specific requirement of your move. In some cases, we prefer sending an actual estimator free of charge to your house to take notes and give you more information.

When are the best and worst times to move?

The best time to move is when You need to move! Extra Mile Movers is here to help you move seven days a week and throughout the year. Our busiest times are: the summer months (June-September), the end of each month and holiday weeks. While the date may make a difference in the overall cost, availability of trucks and crews, we will work to accommodate you and make your transition as smooth as possible.

Will my belongings be shared on the same truck with somebody else’s?

Because the furnishings of the average household will not fill a van, it is often necessary for two or more shipments to be loaded on the same truck. Each shipment if carefully sectioned off, labeled and scanned to ensure the safety and security.

What is a Binding and Non-Binding Estimate?

A Binding Estimate articulates, ahead of time, the exact cost of the move based on the services requested or deemed necessary at the time of the estimate. Anything that is added after is considered extra and will require recalculations. A Non-Binding estimate, on the other hand, provides an approximate price of the move. There are many factors that can affect it such as time, mileage, and packing. For more information please feel free to ask our Relocation Consultants.

How can I reserve My Moving Date?

To reserve a spot on the schedule, we require a one time $50 deposit for Local Moves and a $200 deposit for Long Distance Moves. The deposit is applied to the total cost of the bills. We accept Credit Cards and Cash. We do not accept personal checks at any time. The deposit is fully refundable 72 hour prior to the moving date if the cancellation is necessary.

How can I prepare for Moving Day?

Make sure your home is ready for our crew. Elevators reserved, loading dock is clear and the building staff is informed. If you are moving from a house, let us know if there are any parking restrictions on the street. Sometimes you need to have a Chicago City Parking Permit to legally park and load from the streets with high occupancy and if so, we will help you get that. Pack as much as possible before the movers arrive. We recommend using same size/brand boxes because this will make the move much quicker and smoother for you and will reduce the overall cost of the service.

Are Packing Materials included in My Move?

We offer Free pad wrapping, Free tape and shrink usage to protect your furniture against scratches and dents during the move. Wardrobe Boxes are free to use but need to be returned after the move. Regular Boxes, Wrapping Paper and Bubble Wrap are not included in the price. If needed, all of our trucks are fully equipped with supplies per your request.

Do you provide Loss or Damage protection?

Yes, we do. In accordance with Illinois Commerce Commission, your Bill of Lading issued by Extra Mile Movers provides you with the valuation coverage equal to $0.30/pound per article for Local Moves. And, In accordance with US Department of Transportation, your Bill of Lading provides you with the coverage of $0.60/pound per article for Long Distance Moves. This is a minimum amount of protection and the customer should be aware that this does not provide full coverage insurance for belongings. Having this insurance does not exclude the purchase of additional third-party insurance.

How much does the move cost?

Long Distance Moves are calculated based on the volume (not weight) and distance travelled.

Local Moves are charged hourly plus fuel fee and the price can vary on different factors (see #2 How Long Does it Take To Move?).
